Middlesbrough defender Seb Hines faces up to four months on the sidelines due to a troublesome knee injury.

The 24-year-old centre-back requires surgery to a micro-fracture in his knee and resolve a problem that has been affecting him for some considerable time.

The expected duration of the recovery time therefore already sees Hines as likely to miss the start of next season.

“Potentially he could be out for four months and we wish him a speedy recovery,” manager Tony Mowbray told Boro’s official website. “He’s a strong lad with a good mentality so he will come through it fine. He’s a warrior for us and has played through discomfort at times.”
