Middlesbrough’s hopes of re-signing Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo on loan appear to have been hit by his excellent showing at the World Cup.
The 20-year-old centre-back produced a commanding performance to help Nigeria to a narrow 1-0 victory over Edin Dzeko’s Bosnia & Herzegovina on Sunday evening.
It was enough to keep alive their hopes of moving into the second round knockout stage of the competition in Brazil.
Boro head coach Aitor Karanka has already outlined his desire to Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho about recruiting Omeruo following a successful loan last season, although he is likely to face plenty of competition from elsewhere.
