Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka wants his side to make a fast and positive start to the new season.

The Spaniard will have promotion firmly in his thoughts and believes he has bridged the gap following six months in charge at the Riverside.

“For me it is very important to start the season like we finished the season in winning the game at Yeovil,” Karanka told the Evening Gazette. “We need to be strong in all departments and we need to take our chances.

“But it will be very, very difficult, we know that. The Championship is a very competitive division with some good teams that we must match,” he warned. “I have learned a lot of things in my five or six months here. So we have to be careful, we have to work very, very hard this summer and in pre-season and we must start very well when the games begin.”
