Manager Tony Mowbray admitted that a bad defensive error effectively cost Middlesbrough defeat to Watford at the weekend.
It arose as skipper Rhys Williams attempted to chest the ball back to goalkeeper Jason Steele but instead allowed Matej Vydra to steal in for the first of two goals as the visitors triumphed 2-1 at the Riverside.
“Our defenders had nothing to do in the first half but it’s about concentration,” Mowbray told BBC Tees. “Top players don’t make mistakes like that, but it’s probably cost us the game because of the way they play.”
Boro slipped to fifth in the table but are still just a couple of points short of the automatic promotion places.
