Former Boro striker Cristhian Stuani has been enjoying a spectacular goal-return in Spain.

The 31-year-old currently sits alongside Atletico Madrid’s £90m-rated Antoine Griezmann after plundering seventeen goals for newcomers Girona this season, reports the Evening Gazette.

Those include a double in their latest 6-3 defeat at Real Madrid.

That leaves Stuani closely tracking usual big-hitters Lionel Messi (25), Cristiano Ronaldo (22) and Luis Suarez (21) in terms of number of league goals scored.

Not surprising, therefore, that both Sevilla and Real Betis have already been linked with a potential move for his services.

The Uruguay international previously totalled sixteen goals in 66 appearances while on Teesside, although then usually restricted to playing on the right rather than through the middle.
