Boro striker Ashley Fletcher continues to struggle while on loan to neighbours Sunderland.

The 22-year-old has failed to score in seven starts since joining the Black Cats in January. And that witnessed the former Manchester United forward left out of their latest defeat to Preston.

“He’s found it tough coming into a struggling team,” manager Chris Coleman admitted to The Northern Echo. “He’s coming into a club with a lot of uncertainty, he’s had one or two moments in games where if he hits the back of the net things could be different.”

Prior to that, Fletcher had managed just a solitary Championship goal for Boro after his £6.5m switch from West Ham last July.

That arrived in a 3-2 victory against Queens Park Rangers, while he was also on target in an earlier EFL Cup triumph over Scunthorpe, although most of his appearances were coming from the bench.
