The trend now is that more and more clubs are opting for young managers with great potential, rather than managerial experience. Mark Hughes has proved to be a fantastic manager in his first few seasons and surely he will now be tested at Manchester City, a club that are crying out for success.

Paul Ince has worked miracles at Macclesfield, pulling them back from being 18 points adrift of the rest to a practically mid-table safety with absolutely no-money whatsoever. He is a leading candidate to take over at Blackburn. Sven has had to ‘leg-it` to Mexico, his tactical knowledge was soon found out in the Premiership after a fantastic start but in the second half of the season, Man City were easily brushed aside and they only really managed to raise their game for the Derby matches. This however, brought a double over their rivals which, for most supporters, will do them nicely thank you very much.

Chelsea can`t seem to be able to find a manager for love nor money. I am surprised they haven`t gone after Gareth Southgate, as he seems to be the only manager who hasn`t been linked. Should they try, they would receive a simple message: HANDS OFF! For me, Gareth is one of the brightest prospects in the game. I have to admit, I had my doubts for the best part of his first season, and although he hasn`t set the world alight yet, I can see what he is trying to achieve at the club and if he gets it right we could be in for a special season.

He hasn`t lost his head and gone chasing ‘big name` signings just to please the fans, he has been sensible in bringing in Aliadierre, Shawky (who I think will be a fantastic asset next season) Afonso Alves, and obviously giving David Wheater his break has to be the best move yet as we now have an international defender on our hands who has the potential to be the best.

Piece by piece Gareth is putting a very good squad together, he has shown he has dropped the pals act with certain players as well by dropping George Boateng, selling Jonny Woodgate, roasting the players at H/T against Spurs and persisting with the young players we have. I believe that within a few seasons we will see great things happening at Middlesbrough now that everything is in place. Two or three good signings and the return of the stay-away fans could help Boro push on for a top 10 finish and possibly a cup.

Come On Boro!
