Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele says his side must put on a decent show for their “magnificent” supporters at Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

From Boro’s own perspective the fixture is relatively meaningless, although they still appear set to sell-out of their full 1,500 ticket allocation. Their opponents on the other hand require a victory to avoid an immediate return into League One.

“Our season’s gone now but we’ve got to go there and put on a show for the fans,” Steele told the Evening Gazette. “A contingent of 1,500 is fantastic, not many clubs have brought that many fans to the Riverside over the past year.

“The support we’ve had through thick and thin this season has been magnificent,” he continued. “I know we’ve let a lot of people down recently but next season we are going to go again. Next season we’ve got to go out and prove people wrong.”
