In light of Middlesbrough’s hard-grafted 2-2 draw with Manchester United on Sunday, we asked you to vote for your Middlesbrough man-of-the-match.

From now on we’ll be keeping a track of all your votes, so we can constantly have a look back at past performers and winners.

So this week’s top four, as voted for by Vital Middlesbrough readers, are:

=2nd; Julio Arca – The Argentinian midfielder made his first-team return after being given some time off by manager Gareth Southgate. The rest seems to have worked a treat, with the little man someway back to his normal standards.

=2nd; George Boateng – If you want to succeed against United, you must be strong in the centre of midfield. Alongside Arca, Boateng was as solid as a rock, and ever so unforgiving as he snapped in time and again.

=2nd; Tuncay Sanli – As per usual, the Turkish striker worked hard when he entered the fray, although was outshone by a certain somebody. Along with the others in joint second position, Tuncay picked up 9% of the vote.

1st; Afonso Alves – No surprise here then. Any player who scores a double against United, with one of the meanest defences in Europe, deserves full acclaim. Even more so, however, when that player breaks his goalscoring duck for his new side to do it. Picked up a whooping 61% of your votes.

Results So Far This Season

Stewart Downing – 4
Mido – 1
Jeremie Aliadiere – 1
Robert Huth – 1
Afonso Alves – 1
