Middlesbrough Transfers – Is George Leaving Us?

It looks very likely that George Boateng will not be a Middlesbrough player at the start of the new season.

The 32-year-old is believed to be very upset with the way Gareth Southgate has treated him over the last few months.

In January, the Dutchman was not allowed to speak to Celtic or Rangers causing a rift to build between player and manager.

This resulted in Boateng being stripped of the captaincy, which has led to the midfielder wanting to leave the Riverside this summer.

Boateng recently spoke to The Scottish Sun about the situation: “Before the transfer window opened five clubs were seriously interested in me. Two of the clubs were from Scotland and you can guess who they are”.

Gretna and East Fife maybe?!

George then added: “I wanted to talk to these clubs but Southgate didn’t allow it. I am very unhappy about this. The situation is difficult but my time at Middlesbrough is at an end”.

Fair enough. If he is honest with the club and wants out then that is up to him.

I now hope that Middlesbrough officials don’t try and get him to stay with a new improved contract extension.

If Boateng has come out and said this about Southgate and the club then we need to get rid and quick!
