The Boro boss is keen to add quality to the midfield and will look at a few options over the next few weeks.
Southgate has also stated that the club are not in the search for another striker just yet. Southgate told SkySports, “Strikers are not a priority for us. That might change at some point, but I wouldn’t foresee it. I am quite happy with the blend we have got”.
Southgate also said to SkySports, “We have got a considerable reduction in the wage bill with Gaizka Mendieta and Fabio Rochemback going, so that does help the situation of the club”.
I’m pretty sure that Fabio and Mendieta were both on around £50,000-a-week and with that in mind, Southgate will have more negotiable power to lure in players with high wage demands. Not that we want players like that but class does come at a price.
Southgate will already have his wish list of players that he wants at the club next season. The hard part will be convincing them to join.
The next couple of months will be interesting. Could Boro fans be watching a new ‘Juninho’ next season in a red shirt?
I Hope so.

Sidwell is winning your poll – heaven help you!
I think Southgate has been voting again!
If you want a midfielder then surely Smith if he is unsettled could do a job for you?
We need a natural midfield player, box-to-box type. Smith would be an ok signing for around £3million but not £6million.
Lucas Biglia.
