Downing was back to his best this season after a couple of years regaining confidence from some bad injuries.

A big influence in his performances this season was when he signed an extension to his contract. After a lot of speculation regarding his future, the Boro born player penned a new deal earlier this year to the relief of many Boro fans.

Since then he has been in tremendous form scoring and creating.
