Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk has confirmed that Gaston Ramirez has been given permission to discuss a move away from the Riverside.
The 26-year-old Uruguayan international is understood to be close to joining Italian Serie ‘A’ outfit Sampdoria, despite also interest from Nantes and Freiburg.
Ramirez had previously been linked with Leicester City in January before a potential move to Real Betis fell through.
“We have given permission to speak with another club,” Monk told the Northern Echo. “That’s all I can say at this moment in time.”
Meanwhile, the Boro boss still has both Ryan Shotton (Birmingham City) and Aden Flint (Bristol City) on his own radar.
