Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray described his young goalkeeper Jason Steele as “magnificent.”

Mowbray has full confidence in the England Under-21 international despite a few doubts from a small minority of supporters since his arrival in the first-team a couple of years ago.

The 22-year-old who was part of the Team GB squad during the recent London Olympics once again repaid that kind of faith with another outstanding display in the latest win at Watford.

“Jason’s form has been magnificent all season,” Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “In my time here I’ve heard the murmurings but you’ve got to give young goalkeepers opportunities to play.

“I think he’s doing exceptionally well,” he continued. “He’s a big, big talent and his personality’s great for the job and he’s going to be very important for us.”
