Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray praised the attitude of striker Scott McDonald following his winner at the weekend.

The 29-year-old made his first appearance of the season as a second-half substitute at Watford and soon came up with the decisive strike in a 2-1 victory at Vicarage Road.

Former Celtic forward McDonald had previously seriously fallen out of favour at the Riverside since making his last appearance back in April.

“I’m delighted with him today, I thought he worked hard and has a decent football brain,” Mowbray told BBC Tees. “He played the left, it’s not his natural position, but he didn’t moan and got the goal that won us the game.”
