Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald was understandably delighted to mark his return with a goal at the weekend.
Appearing for the first time this season, the former Celtic hit-man netted a late winner after coming on as a second-half substitute for the visitors in a morale-boosting 2-1 victory at Watford.
“I don’t know where it leaves me in terms of next time to be honest,” the 29-year-old told the Evening Gazette. “That’s down to the manager. It’s one step at a time. That’s my first game this season and I got my first goal.
“If anything the time out has made me hungrier to do well. Now I just want to make as many appearances as I can,” McDonald continued. “I’m back and involved again now and all I want to do now is get my head down and work hard, help the team and help the youngsters.”
