Southgate demands more

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate insists his side must improve and maintain the high standards set early on this season to achieve promotion.

Middlesbrough currently sit top of the championship with 10 points after an impressive start to the 09/10 campaign.

Last season Middlesbrough had the worst goal-scoring record in English league football. However, now the goals seem to be flowing. Both Leroy Lita and Tuncay Sanli appear to be doing the magic upfront. Adam Johnson and Mark Yeates also appear to be causing Championship defences plenty of problems so far.

However, Southgate feels Boro weren’t on top form:’I felt we ground out a win and I didn’t think we were at our best.

‘We didn’t create as much as we’d hoped and looked a little laboured…

‘Doncaster pass the ball very well and make you chase, but the majority of their work is in the back two thirds of the field.

Without posing too much threat they had control of the game for periods and that can be frustrating.’

The Boro chief also conceded that a transfer dealings regarding Tuncay are hotting up and that an agreement could be reached in the next couple of days.

It was a case of job done on Saturday against Doncaster, but pleasing that we are able to get three points without any dramas. We will have to be on top of our game when we come up against any of the current top four. Good start though – the hard work continues this week with away games.

Wouldn’t argue with Southgate about that, but it was a win and that’s all that matters. A clean sheet two goals to the good, even if we were below par what more could we ask for.

mikkel beck. i feel it was rash, you telling us all that you are from australia, as there is only one thing that a self respecting english person can say to an aussie at this time and that is…..ASHES!

For Paddylambton, I’m from the UK but, I’m currently travelling around Australia at the moment. So I’ve had a little celebration. A lot of the Aussies are gutted bout it, there was one guy in the backpackers lodge that wouldn’t even talk about it, mental! Regarding Emnes I think the MFC website said he was ok and will take some time to recover.
