Middlesbrough could steal in ahead of Nottingham Forest to sign Blackburn Rovers winger Connor Mahoney.

The Teessiders have made a late move for the 20-year-old who had appeared to be on his way to the City Ground.

Mahoney already agreed terms with Forest, reports the Nottingham Post, but now appears to have a straight choice between them and Boro.

Forest have not yet settled on a compensation fee with League One newcomers Rovers after the player reached the end of his existing contract this summer.

He made six starts and ten substitute appearances as Blackburn were relegated from the Championship on the final day of last season.
