The future of recent head coach Steve Agnew at Middlesbrough remains unclear with talks ongoing regarding his situation.

The 51-year-old replaced Aitor Karanka in charge following the Spaniard’s departure in March, but new manager Garry Monk appears ready to bring in his own backroom staff from former club Leeds United. Pep Clotet, James Beattie and Darryl Flahavan were each expected to shortly leave Elland Road.

“We’ll work with Garry over the coming days to piece together that support staff,” Boro chief executive Neil Bausor told the Evening Gazette last week. “Steve Agnew has been fantastic and has been a great servant to this club over a number of years.

“We hold him in the utmost respect and will be talking to him in the coming days about what his future is.”

Agnew had previously drafted Joe Jordan, Jonathan Woodgate and Paul Jenkins into Boro’s first-team set-up and their futures will similarly need clarifying.
