Key role for newcomer

Head coach Aitor Karanka believes on loan striker Danny Graham has a really key role over the closing months of the season.

Boro made it four games without a goal after being held to a 0-0 draw by Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.

However, Graham has recently rejoined the club until the end of the season following a lean spell with Sunderland and foreshortened loan at Hull City. And Karanka reckons the 28-year-old will be a major asset to them once he recognises their “style and intensity”.

“When he has this he will be very important for us, we have to keep working with him,” he told BBC Radio Tees. “He has experience, he has – or he had – goals and I hope he will have goals here too.”

Meanwhile, the Spaniard revealed any prospects of making the play-offs were far from his mind at the present time.

“All I am thinking about is the next game, against Watford. Then we have two months, three months, to fight to win every game, and when we get to March and April we can see where we are.”
