Former Celtic midfielder Barry Robson says that Middlesbrough’s play-off bid is still very much alive.

Recent results may have gone against Boro despite their improved performances, but Robson is still of the opinion that his side can make the play-offs.

“I know you make your own luck in this game,” he told the Evening Gazette. “But for me this is probably the unluckiest period I`ve ever been through in football.

“It`s been a lot of little things: missed penalties, goals not given when they should have stood, offsides, quite a few injuries – they all seem to be going against us right now and it`s very frustrating.

“Sometimes you wonder if someone up there is not on your side.”

Boro’s recent struggles were mirrored in midweek when they had enough chances to comfortably dispose of Derby.

“Against Derby we had the chances to win and if Scott`s (McDonald) goal stands it is two nil and we would have won that game comfortably,” added Robson.

“We are all very disappointed what happened at Derby because it was a missed opportunity.”
