Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray admitted the signs were good but warned that things can swiftly change in football.

Boro fans will certainly be hoping that isn’t the case at present after six straight wins left them in second place in the Championship at the weekend after already confirming their place in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup.

That kind of form has helped mark the Teessiders best start to a season in a quarter of a century.

“For me it’s just about the points on offer and you would have to say we’ve had a really good few months,” Mowbray told the Northern Echo. “But there will be a stage where we might not win for a few weeks and we drop down.

“The bottom line is we have to get there at the end,” he continued. “I’ll never get carried away until someone sticks a medal around my neck when we’ve won the league or a play-off.”
